The mid-size Ridgeline uses the reinforced platform and underpinning of the Pilot-SUV and shares the same styling language as well. Following the refresh of the Honda Pilot, the 2020 Honda Ridgeline should also apply similar styling updates. The front fascia of the model should introduce the revised grille design with the thicker chrome bar like the Pilot SUV. The front section should also get the re-sculpted bumper and fog light housings with the restyled running lights. The body lines, profile and size will remain the same while the tailgate should come with the slightly different styling of the taillights following again the changes of the Pilot SUV. Inside the cabin, the similarities with the Pilot SUV won’t stop. The models share the same dashboard design and equipment. The truck comes with the quality materials and comfortable seats. For the new model year, the Ridgeline should gain the updated infotainment system. The new version should come with the new 8-inch touchscreen and better-organized menu. The redesigned instrument cluster should also be the part of the update. Honda is also expected to boost the safety of the model with the Safety Sense Suite available in all versions. All Ridgeline versions should include adaptive cruise control, road departure mitigation, lane keep assist, forward collision warning with emergency braking. Further safety upgrades will include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert but that will come at an extra cost in upper grades. The unibody design and SUV-based suspensions provide the class-best handling and road manners to the Honda Ridgeline. The model shares its structure with the Pilot SUV but the same is with the powertrain. A 3.5-liter V-6 engine sourced from the SUV model makes 280 hp and torque of 262 pound-feet. It is achievable with the six-speed automatic in the current version and Honda doesn’t offer the 9-speed automatic in the mid-size truck like in the Pilot SUV. Honda improved the 9-speed automatic for the refreshed Pilot and there is a chance that this transmission becomes the part of the Ridgeline as well. The new transmission could slightly improve the fuel economy of the truck and now it returns 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. The towing capacity of the model will likely stay at 5, 000 pounds. The big news for the 2020 Honda Ridgeline could also be the introduction of the hybrid powertrain. Honda promised the electrification of the model but wasn’t specific about the launch date. If the hybrid option arrives, it will adopt some form of the two-motor hybrid system from the Accord sedan. The system integrates the Atkinson cycle, combustion engine and two electric motors with the lithium-ion battery pack as well. The hybrid version would improve the fuel effeminacy but remains to see what combination Honda will use and effects on the fuel economy and performance. The arrival of the updated 2020 Honda Ridgeline will be in the third quarter of 2019. The current version starts just below $30, 000 but if the reports about the mid-update prove to be accurate the price of the base version would likely close to 31, 000. Still, we should wait for the debut of the model for the precise details.
