Tired of being the American knife in a German gun fight, Cadillac has the likes of Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz in its sights with the all-new CT5. The CT5 will fill the void in in the Cadillac lineup that will be left by the departure of the CTS and ATS sedans. The standard engine in the CT5 will be a 237-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and the optional engine will be a 335-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6. Both engines will pair with a ten-speed automatic. The CT5 is based on Cadillac's Alpha platform that underpins both the ATS and CTS, but rides on a longer wheelbase than both of those sedans. Rear-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive will be available. We'll know more about the CT5's handling when we finally get our hands on one; that will happen closer to the car's on-sale date this fall. Cadillac has upped its game with the CT5's interior, providing more posh than plastic. Premium Luxury models are available with a nice open-pore wood trim that elevates the interior design. Cadillac's CUE infotainment is controlled by a rotary wheel located behind the gearshift or by interacting with the 10-inch touchscreen itself; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Desirable available features include a head-up display, wireless charging, and an eight-speaker Bose audio system. A host of driver-assistance technology will also be available, such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. Super Cruise, GM's Level 2 autonomous-driving feature—which can steer, accelerate, and brake a vehicle without a driver needing to keep his or her hands on the wheel—will be available, but not initially at launch.
